Plagiarism and Referencing

Plagiarism definition - An act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author: It is said that he plagiarized Thoreau's plagiarism of a line written by Montaigne.

My definition - Taking someone else's work and stating it as your own without asking the creator.

Referencing definition - An act or instance of referring.

My definition - Using a source for your work and labeling it in your work.

What does this mean to me? Plagiarism and Referencing to me mean, having my work as an original. Without anyone complaining that I copied and pasted it. Also it means to not having the same work as anyone, because it would look silly.

Reference for definitions - Dictionary Reference

Why is it important to know this? It is important to know this because if you plagiarize you could get into some trouble. You can get sued as well and you get sent to jail. Also Plagiarism is stealing and copying someone's work.
